• On a single night in January 2009, there were 643,000 homeless people in shelters or on the streets.
• African Americans represent 38.7 percent of the sheltered homeless population.
• Victims of domestic violence constituted twelve percent of the sheltered homeless population.
• Veterans represent about 11.1 percent of all sheltered adults.
• Nearly four in ten sheltered adults (37.8 percent) has a disability.
